At Minus 62 Degrees in the Coldest Village, the Thermometer is Damaged
The new electronic thermometer in the Siberian village of Oymyakon, recognized as the coldest village in the world, was damaged yesterday when the temperature dropped to minus 62 degrees Celsius.
Local residents say the temperature has fallen even further - down to minus 71.2 degrees. It was not so cold in Oymyakon since 1933 when it was minus 61 degrees.

1,000-year-old Persian cup unearthed in remote region of Arctic Russia
Scientists recently made a startling discovery whilst on an expedition to monitor permafrost on the Gydan Peninsula; a 1,000-year-old bronze cup from ancient Persia (modern day Iran). The discovery was made close to the Kara Sea, the furthest north such an artifact has been found.
The cup was likely brought to the region by ancient traders seeking walrus tusks, birds, and fur.
Banned Russian Rally Shifts to Montenegro
A performance art rally held annually in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk in Russia is set to take place in the Montenegrin town of Budva this May Day, after authorities in the Russian city said the event could not go ahead in its usual location.
For ten years, Novsibirsk has hosted the Monstratsiya, a mass absurdist performance combining political statements with art.

State of Emergency Declared in Siberia Over Floods
State of emergency has been issued in the Republic of Altai and Khakassia over floods caused by torrential rains in the past four days.
Rescue teams of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and local authorities have organized evacuation of the population from flooded houses with 119 people taken to temporary shelters and 406 relocated, Itar-Tass reports.
