Siege of Bihać

According to the Bosnian Missing Persons Institute, 102 Bosnian citizens, including Andrea Beganovic, were reported missing in neighbouring Croatia as a result of the war in the 1990s.

"Out of that number, 46 victims have been found, exhumed and identified so far, while the search for 56 people continues," said Missing Persons Institute spokesperson Emza Fazlic.

The trial of Atif Dudakovic opened on Monday at the Bosnian state court, with the former commander and 16 Bosnian Army soldiers accused of participating in a joint criminal enterprise aimed at removing the Serb population from the Bosanski Petrovac, Kljuc, Bosanska Krupa and Sanski Most areas during the Bosnian war.

The Sarajevo Canton assembly condemned the arrest of 1990s general Atif Dudakovic and other members of the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Army on suspicion of war crimes.

The war crimes arrest of Bosnian Army Fifth Corps ex-commander Atif Dudakovic was criticised by some Bosniak politicians but welcomed by Serbs, again highlighting the country’s ethnic divisions.

Atif Dudakovic, former commander of the Fifth Corps of the Bosnian Army, was arrested on suspicion of war crimes against Serbs and Bosniaks in 1994 and 1995.

Dudakovic is suspected of committing war crimes against Serbs in the fall of 1995.

Several other persons, suspected of committing war crimes against Serbs during the war, from 1992 until 1995, have also been detained.

They have been arrested on the order of the Prosecution of BiH, while the investigation against Dudakovic lasted 12 years.

The Bosnian State prosecution raised an indictment charging two former Bosnian Army soldiers with raping a Serb woman in 1994 in the north-western Bihac region.

Former Bosnian Serb Army soldier Dusko Solesa was sentenced to six years in prison for raping the teenage girl in the Bihac municipality in north-west Bosnia in 1992.
