As noted by NATO's Allied Maritime Command, it is normal in anti-submarine warfare exercises for participants to detect a number of underwater sounds, many of which turn out to be nothing, but all are investigated.

Authorities have Stopped Searching for the Missing Crew of the Argentine Submarine
There is no hope of rescuing the crew members of the Argentine submarine that disappeared two weeks ago, Nova TV reported.
The navy announced it had ceased the operation to rescue the 44 people.
An Argentine navy spokesman said the rescue operation lasted twice as many days as it was believed the crew could have survived.
The Search for the Argentine Submarine Continues
The Argentine submarine with a 44-member crew which disappeared two weeks ago reported a fire in their batteries before interrupting the radio link. This was announced by the Argentinian navy, Nova TV reported.
Short circuit has caused smoke but no flames and the fire has been extinguished.

An apparent explosion occurred near the time and place an Argentine submarine went missing, the country’s navy reported on Nov. 23, prompting relatives of the vessel’s 44 crew members to burst into tears and some to say they had lost hope of a rescue.

The search for the Argentine military submarine lost in the South Atlantic continued for a week and reached a "critical phase". The reason is that the 44-member crew on board may already experience oxygen deficiency, said Enrique Balbi, a spokeswoman for the US Navy, quoted by the agencies.
Authorities may have Discovered the Argentine Submarine
A US military aircraft involved in the search for the missing Argentinean submarine found a heat-emitting object at the bottom of the ocean.
A metal object at a depth of 70 meters and 300 kilometers from the shores of the Argentine province of Chubut was detected, according to local media.
Rescue ships and planes were directed to the site.
