"China wants to make Taiwan a new Hong Kong"
"Our daily lives are getting tougher as China continues to put pressure on Taiwan to accept its political conditions, conditions that would make Taiwan a future Hong Kong," Wu told US Secretary of Health Alex Azar.
Azar's visit to Taiwan was condemned by Beijing, which assessed that it endangers peace.

China virus death toll tops 200 as WHO declares global emergency
The death toll from a new virus reached 213 on Jan. 31 and the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global health emergency.
In a new travel advisory, the U.S. State Department raised its warning for China to the same level as Afghanistan and Iraq, saying on its website, "Do not travel to China due to novel coronavirus first identified in Wuhan."
Taiwan's military chief killed in helicopter crash
Taiwan's military chief was killed when an air force helicopter crashed near the capital on Jan. 2, the local media reported.
Chief of General Staff Shen Yi-ming and Air Force Commander Hsiung Hou-chi were among eight people aboard killed in the crash, the news agency Focus Taiwan reported, citing the National Defense Ministry.

Search Teams Found Bodies Under the Ruins of the Bridge in Taiwan which Collapsed Yesterday
Search teams have found four bodies and are searching for two more missing fishing vessels that were at the scene at the time of yesterday's collapse of a bridge in Taiwan, the Associated Press reported.
Today, the National Fire Service identified two of the victims as Indonesians and one as Filipino. The identity of the fourth victim is still unknown.
More than 20 Native Dairies Will Export to China, 14 already Do
14 Bulgarian companies export dairy products to China, the Ministry of Agriculture reported. The first four of these were approved by the General Customs Administration of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in July 2019.
At the beginning of September, another 10 Bulgarian companies received export approval.
US Sells Weapons Worth $ 8 billion to Taiwan
The United States has approved a $ 8 billion deal for the military sale of 66 F-16 fighter jets to Taiwan, the Security and Defense Cooperation Agency said.

China warns of war in case of move toward Taiwan independence
China's defense ministry warned on July 24 that it was ready for war if there was a move toward Taiwan's independence, accusing the United States of undermining global stability and denouncing its arms sales to the self-ruled island.
Taiwan First in Asia Legalizes Same-Sex Marriages
The Taiwan Parliament has legalized same-sex marriages today, the French press reported, quoted by NOVA TV.
This is the first such case in Asia. Parliament legalized same-sex marriages for two years after the Taiwan Constitutional Court ruled in May 2017 that they did not contradict the Taiwanese constitution.
