Ponta: VAT on fruit, vegetables and meat products possibly lowered as of mid-2015

Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on Wednesday that no tax will be raised in 2015, but quite the contrary, the VAT on fruit, vegetables and meat products could be lowered in the second half of the year.

He explained however that the future government will decide on this "according to the concrete fiscal and budget data."

Iohannis: Cuts necessary to high VAT, top tax evasion source

The current 24 percent level of the value added tax is too high, and it is the main item of tax avoidance; the VAT should be reduced to the previous level of 19 percent, presidential candidate Klaus Iohannis of the Christian Liberal Alliance said on Wednesday in a campaign stop in Curtea de Arges (northwest of Bucharest).
