A new lighting system will be installed at the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio, the Culture Ministry announced on Wednesday.

The remains of a 2,500-year-old structure unearthed at an archaeological dig in the western Peloponnese may be those of a temple dedicated to the god of the sea, Poseidon, and mentioned by the ancient Greek geographer and historian Strabo, according to archaeologists.

Selected museums and archaeological sites across the country will be open to the public free of charge for the August full moon on Sunday, with several also hosting cultural events not just on the night itself, but across the weekend.

A BBC film crew got to work at the Temple of Poseidon at Sounio on Thursday after securing the approval of Greece's Central Archaeological Council (KAS) for shooting some sense for a new adaptation of John Le Carre's spy thriller "The Little Drummer Girl."

World Tourism Day on Sept 27 coincides with the rare supermoon total lunar eclipse, a phenomenon that hasn’t happened since 1982. Over the past 115 years there have been only five of them and the next one is due in 2018.

The moon will be just 387,472 km meaning that it will be 13% larger than normal, making it a sight worth seeing.
