United Kingdom general election debates

British Parliament was formally dissolved on Monday as the campaign for the forthcoming general election in the UK was officially unveiled.

British Prime Minister David Cameron held an audience with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, after which he announced that the general election will take place on May 7.

Scotland's pro-independence leader Alex Salmond easily won a final TV debate on Monday night just over three weeks before a breakaway referendum, but it wasn't clear if this would help him catch up in the polls.
