Interior Minister Nikos Voutsis on Tuesday heralded a scheme that aims to improve the living standards of the country?s Roma community by relocating them out of makeshift settlements and improving their access to education and health services.

United Nations Special Rapporteur Mutuma Ruteere will visit Greece from May 4-8 2015 to evaluate the situation of racism and discrimination in the country.

This is the first official mission to Greece by the independent expert mandated by the UN Human Rights Council to assess and report on the situation of racism, racial discrimination and related intolerance in the world.

Greece, Mexico, Indonesia, Romania and Egypt have tabled a resolution, titled "Right to Work", that marks the start of a serises of initiatives in the employment sector.

The UN Human Rights Council on March 27 harshly criticised North Korea for the "systematic abduction" of foreigners, after a UN investigation found the country had snatched up to 200,000 foreign nationals.
      

The British-Lebanese lawyer Amal Alamuddin, who is engaged to George Clooney, on Aug. 11 pulled out of an appointment to serve on a U.N. commission on possible violations of the rules of war in Gaza.
     

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has welcomed a U.N. Human Rights Council decision to investigate possible war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza, repeating his call upon Israel to stop its "inhumane attacks" in Gaza.

IFJ urges UN to support journalists’ safety

GENEVA -- The International Federation of Journalists has urged collective action to promote media safety during a discussion organized by the UN Human Rights Council.

The panel on the safety of journalists took place during the council's 26th session which opened on June 10 in Geneva, the IFJ said in a statement.
