The Chamber of Deputies' plenary started on Wednesday the debates on the amendments of the Criminal Code, after the Opposition's request to remove them from the agenda and send them back to the Special Committee. The majority vote decided to reject the two proposals.

Romania was set for more political turmoil on Wednesday after the country's Social Democrat-controlled lower parliamentary chamber adopted scores of changes to the Criminal Procedure Code in an unusual late-night vote on Tuesday.

Deputy Raluca Turcan, Vice Chair of the National Liberal Party (PNL), claims that Prime Minister Victor Ponta's Cabinet has raised Romania's public debt to 44 percent of the GDP, which means every Romanian owes 3,313 euros.

The liberal deputy, Raluca Turcan deems that the Emergency Ordinance (OUG) by which the regime of the scientific titles is regulated was given by the Government to 'serve Prime Minister Ponta' and asks the Ombudsman, Victor Ciorbea to "turn the OUG back."
