Ukraine Reinforces Moldova Border As Tensions With Russia Continue
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced on Thursday that it was sending reinforcements to the border with Moldova amid a worsening dispute between Ukraine and Russia that has triggered fears of all-out war.
"Rapid Response Units are working out practical elements of protection of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border," the Ukrainian Border Guard press release said.
Russian Exercises in Breakaway Transnistria Leave Moldova Unfazed
Moldovan Defence Minister Victor Gaiciuc told BIRN that his country was not worried about Russian military exercises in the breakaway region of Transnistria in the context of the recent Russian reinforcements near the Ukraine border.
Moldova’s Parliament Backs Ion Chicu as New PM
Moldova's Prime Minister-designate Ion Chicu was approved by the country's parliament on Thursday, along with his proposed list of ministers who will form the new cabinet following the collapse of the former government led by pro-Western PM Maja Sandu just days prior.
Having formed a list of proposed ministers overnight, Chicu secured the support of 62 out of 101 deputies.
