A 35-year-old Greek man who was fatally shot by Albanian police in southern Albania last Sunday was not fired at from close range, according to a lawyer representing the victim's relatives.

In comments to reporters after talking to a Greek coroner who examined the body, the lawyer Konstantinos Giovanopoulos said that the 35-year-old was shot twice in the chest.

Popular singer Alkistis Protopsalti will perform songs by a number of both renowned and lesser-known Greek composers that have marked her lengthy stage career at the Aliki Vougiouklaki Theater on Sunday, July 22.

The concert, which is titled "Under the Stars" and forms part of her tour around Greece this summer, starts at 9 p.m. and admission costs 10 euros.

Iconic Greek actress Zoe Laskari passed away at her home in Porto Rafti, Friday afternoon at the age of 75. Zoe Laskari, who was born in Thessaloniki, was one the three female actresses that marked the golden era of Greek movies in the 50s and 60s, the other two being Aliki Vougiouklaki and Jenny Karezi.

Preliminary results showing that Vangelis Giakoumakis committed suicide by slashing his wrist were boosted this week, after tests showed that DNA on a knife found next to his body contained only his genetic material.

The announcement concerning the cause of death of 20-year-old Vangelis Giakoumakis, the missing Ioannina Dairy School student from Crete, will be made on Monday. Coroner Theodoros Vougiouklakis said that findings are to be confirmed in lab tests at around noon.
