President lauds Bekatorou for ‘breaking the silence’
President Katerina Sakellaropoulou (r) received veteran Olympian Sofia Bekatorou (l) at the Presidential Mansion Monday, after the sailing champion last week revealed that she had been sexually abused by a federation official in 1998. Sakellaropoulou expressed her support to Bekatorou for "breaking the silence" in Greece regarding the sexual abuse of women.
Halide Edip: Pillar of Turkish literature
Commemorated on the 57th anniversary of her passing on Jan. 9, 1964, Halide Edip Adıvar was a literary giant as the author of the first war novel in Turkish literature, as well as one of Anadolu Agency's founders.

Helicopter’s tail hits lighting pole in Istanbul
A gendarme helicopter's tail hit a lighting pole when it was trying to get into a parking position at an Istanbul airport on Dec. 31.
The accident took place at the Sabiha Gökçen Airport and police, fire brigades, and health professionals were dispatched to the scene following the accident.
There was no disruption in airport traffic due to the accident.

President issues end-of-year message to Greeks abroad
Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou issued a message to Greeks living abroad, recalling the difficulties encountered in 2020 with the disruptions caused by the pandemic, while noting their contributions to their host countries.
Sakellaropoulou to visit Kinaros on Wednesday
President Katerina Sakellaropoulou will on Wednesday visit the remote island of Kinaros in the southeastern Aegean.
Sakellaropoulou will meet with the tiny island's sole inhabitant, the 74-year-old Rinio Katsotourchi.
In a public health message issued on Tuesday, Sakellaropoulou urged Greeks to get vaccinated against the coronavirus.
