Officials hand out dictionaries to refugees in Athens

'The Lobster' nabs Best Screenplay at Los Angeles Film Critics Association awards

"The Lobster" has nabbed Best Screenplay for Greek writers Efthymis Filippou and Yorgos Lanthimos at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association 2016 awards.

Starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, "The Lobster" is also directed by Lanthimos ("Dogtooth," "Alps"), hailed as a leading proponent of the so-called Weird Wave of cinema.

Esquire, the renowned Men’s fashion magazine released its top 25 movies for 2016, with the editors’ top pick being Greek director Yorgos Lanthimo’s “The Lobster”, starring Collin Farrell. It is quite an honour for a Greek film to beat out some of the biggest names in the film industry. Another notable Greek entry into its list at 10th spot is Athina Rachel Tsangari’s “Chevaler”.

Friends and family of great Greek actor Minas Hatzisavvas gathered at the 1st Cemetery of Athens to pay their last respects to a talented man. He expressed the wish for a state funeral, followed by a cremation to take place in Bulgaria due the fact that there are no cremation facilities in Greece.

Great Greek actor Minas Hatzisavvas will receive a state funeral at the first cemetery of Athens at noon on Wednesday. His family have expressed the desire for money to be gathered for refugees instead of wreaths.

‘Lobster’ leads with four nominations in the European Film Awards

The film “Lobster” by Yorgos Lanthimos has been nominated in four categories in the European Film Awards which will take place in Berlin on December 12.

It is the first English-language film by Lanthimos which was filmed in Ireland and stars Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz.

This is what The Lobster, the new film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, asks on the occasion of its premier at British cinemas.

The film shows people taken to a hotel where they have to find their mate in 45 days. If they fail to do it, they will be taken to a room where they will be turned into an animal and released into the woods.
