Dacic: US should respect legitimate interests of Serbia

First Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic met in Washington with new Assistant US Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell.

Dacic was the first Serbian official to speak with this senior US administration official, the government announced on Friday.

After the meeting, Dacic said that the talks were very complex and that their focus was on finding a common interest between the United States and Serbia.

Bearing in mind the friendship that has lasted over centuries and the long tradition of diplomatic relations, I insisted on how to find the minimum of common interests, if we cannot find the maximum, in order to jointly contribute to the stability of our region, Dacic pointed out.

In that sense, the meeting with Mitchell was of great importance, the minister noted and voiced hope that he will visit Serbia next year.
