The National Bank of Romania (BNR) will put into circulation a mint set comprising three coins (gold, silver and coppered tombac), and a separate silver coin dedicated to the anniversary of 150 years since the foundation of the University of Bucharest.

The coins to be issued on Monday for numismatic purposes have face values of 100 lei (gold), 10 lei (silver) and 1 ley (coppered tombac) and round shapes. Their respective weights and diameters are 21, 37 and 37 millimetres, and 6.452, 31.103 and 23.5 grams.

The obverses feature the image of the University of Bucharest in 1864, the portrait of its founder, ruling prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, the inscriptions 'ROMANIA' and 'ALEXANDRU IOAN CUZA' in an arc, the respective face values, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue '2014'.

The reverse, common to all coins in the set, displays the image of an entry gable of the University of Bucharest, the inscriptions '1864' — the year of establishment, and 'BUCURESTI'.

The gold, silver and coppered tombac coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules. Leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French accompany the mint sets and the silver coins. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The mintage of this numismatic issue is 150 mint sets (gold, silver and coppered tombac coins), and 250 silver coins.
