Romanian tennis player Simona Halep said she wants to become world No. 1.

On arriving to Romania to take part in the BRD Bucharest Open tournament, Halep declared: "I want to become world number one. I don't know if it's possible, but I want to rise to number one."

As regards the competition at the BNR Arenas, Halep said: ''This tournament means a lot, because it's the first one organized in our country. I really wanted to play. I hope I will be one hundred percent prepared on Wednesday and I will try to do my best to reach the final. I really want to win. It's hard, because I have just played on grass, I hope I'll get used to the new court very quickly," Digi Sport reports.

As for the match she lost in the Wimbledon semifinals, the Romanian tennis player said: "My injury is not to blame. Bouchard defeated me, she was better than me and I have to move on. This gives me courage to move forward with confidence. I really want to rise up higher in the tennis rankings, I am going to work every day to try to give my best to win matches." AGERPRES
