Easter fireworks accident leaves two dead

A tragic accident on Good Friday at the village of Ano Amfeia (Thoiria) in Messinia, the Peloponnese,  resulted in the death of two young men, aged 23 and 26.

They died of electrocution while experimenting with fireworks at the village school's yard, empty for the Easter break. The school is near Public Power Corporation cables that exploded as the two young men were testing fireworks explosives.

The ambulence service did not arrive in time to save the young men, believed to have died immediately.

An investigation into the incident is currently taking place.
