Municipality to address building height bonuses
The controversial issue of the maximum heights of buildings in the Greek capital will be addressed on Monday at the municipal council of Athens.
The municipality will reportedly present a legal opinion, according to which the building height bonuses included in the building regulation cannot be applied, since they go beyond what is defined by a relevant decree issued in 1955.

Mt Lycabettus church slapped with fine
The city planning department of the Municipality of Athens has imposed a fine of 1.26 million euros on the Church of Agios Isidoros on Lycabettus Hill in central Athens for illegal expansion into a forest area with arbitrary constructions. The chapel, which dates back to the 1930s, was built on the ruins of a post-Byzantine church.

Key suspect remanded in case of killed police officer
"Shark," a prime suspect in the homicide case of a police officer during fan riots in Athens last December was remanded into custody upon his surrender to the authorities.
The 36-year-old suspect holds a prominent position within the Gate 7 ultras fan club associated with Olympiakos. The individual, accompanied by his legal representative, surrendered Friday.

Apart from its aging fleet of buses, a thorn in Athens' urban transport is the network of stops where, in addition to problematic locations in several cases, there are broken canopies, damaged seats, tilted poles etc. Moreover, cars parked in front of bus stops make a bad situation worse.

Athens hopes Greek PM's Türkiye visit to foster 'calmness'
Greece is gearing up for the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Türkiye on May 13, with hopes high in Athens for a "period of calmness" in often tense relations between the neighbors.
"I think what we should expect is a frank meeting," Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis told radio Skai on May 9.
