Turkey Intercepts 87 Refugees Near Border with Bulgaria, Greece

Turkish authorities prevented 87 refugees from crossing into Greece and Bulgaria near the border city of Edirne on Monday, dailysabah.com reported.

The refugees from Iran, Morocco, Syria and Tunisia have opted for the land route across Turkey's northwestern border in their attempt to reach Europe as weather conditions in the Aegean Sea are worseninig.

Historic synagogue in Edirne hosts concert

The historic synagogue in Turkey's northwestern city of Edirne hosted a concert featuring pieces from Jewish composers on Oct. 18.

Turkey's Jewish community leader Silviyo Ovedya addressed the audience before the concert, saying they had come to Edirne in honor of the European Day of Jewish Culture, which is usually marked in Istanbul.

Bulgaria Names New Consuls General in Edirne, Toronto

Vasil Valchev will be Bulgaria's new consul general in Edirne, Turkey, the government in Sofia announced on Wednesday.

Valchev has been Bulgaria's consul general in Thessaloniki, Greece from 2011 to 2015. He will take over from Lyubomir Popov, whose term of office as the consul general in Edirne has expired, the government said in a statement following a weekly meeting.
