Four children on the beach in Gaza City were killed in an Israeli raid on Wednesday, raising the overall death toll to 213, the emergency services said.        

All four were on the beach when the attack took place, in what initially appeared to be shelling from the sea, according to AFP correspondents who witnessed the attack from a nearby hotel.        

Israel on July 16 warned 100,000 Gazans to flee their homes, as the military intensified its nine-day air campaign after Hamas snubbed an Egyptian ceasefire effort.
      

Israel pounded Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip on July 12 for a fifth day, killing nine people including two disabled women according to medics, and showed no sign of pausing despite international pressure to negotiate a ceasefire.

Two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike on July 11, raising the toll in four days of violence to 100, Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.

Five Palestinian children were among 25 people killed in Israeli air strikes on Gaza early Thursday, medics said, with most of the bloodshed in the southern city of Khan Yunis.        

Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip killed 20 people on July 10 including four women and four children, medics said, on the third day of a widening military operation.

The deaths bring to 70 the number of Palestinians killed since Israel on Tuesday launched Operation Protective Edge to halt rocket fire from the besieged territory.

Israel has launched an aerial offensive in the Gaza Strip, bombing more than 30 targets including homes and calling it part of a campaign named "Operation Protective Edge" targeting Hamas Islamist militants firing rockets at the Jewish state.
