The media mostly missed it (or chose to ignore it as a piece of meaningless rhetoric), but Donald Trump proclaimed a new doctrine in his speech to the assembled leaders of the Muslim world in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. 'Silence' for Europe Day, May 9
The European Union is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. It declared May 9 as "Europe Day" in a summit held in Milan in 1985, celebrated in member countries and member candidate countries. The day has also been celebrated in EU member candidate country Turkey since 2000 with concerts and activities, though this year it will be a "quiet" day closed to the public.

Natalie Imbruglia in Concert in Sofia on April 30
Australian singer-songwriter and actress Natalie Imbruglia will have her first concert in Sofia's Music Jam club on April 30, the organizers of the event said. Sofia is part of the artist's big European tour which kicks off on April 22 in Moscow and includes Berlin, Milan, Paris and London.

Efes cruises to Turkish Airlines Euroleague playoffs with win over Fenerbahçe
Anadolu Efes defeated Fenerbahçe 80-77 March 23 at Istanbul's Abdi İpekçi Arena in a Turkish Airlines Euroleague game to clinch a berth in the playoffs.
The win gave Anadolu Efes its 16th victory, while Fenerbahçe, which had already advanced to the playoffs, fell to 17 wins and 11 losses.
Turkey: A Sunni Iran in the making?
The rising tide of an aggressive blend of nationalism and Islamism might be prompting Ankara to pursue its own WMDs, and its preference appears to be long-range missiles. As Turkey feels more threatened by real or (mostly) imagined enemies, it increasingly views maximum possible military deterrence as essential to both survival (a defensive goal) and assertiveness (an offensive one).
