Turkish Airlines extends int’l flight suspension

Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines on April 14 announced extending the suspension of international flights amid coronavirus outbreak.

The company will not fly on international routes until May 2020 "in accordance with the decisions taken by the authorities of Turkey and to protect the public health from novel coronavirus pandemic."

Turkish politician Haydar Baş dies of COVID-19

Turkish politician Haydar Baş died on April 14 after contracting the novel coronavirus. He was 73.

Baş, the leader of the Independent Turkey Party (BTP), was in intensive care in a state hospital in the Black Sea province of Trabzon.

The politician was buried in his family cemetery after funeral prayers in the Akçaabat district.

Turkey, Azerbaijan show solidarity in fighting COVID-19

Turkey and Azerbaijan displayed digital versions of their flags late on April 13 on Ata Tower, one of the landmarks in the Turkish capital, to highlight their solidarity in combating the novel coronavirus.

The tower also displayed the two countries' motto "one nation, two states."

Turkey's move came after a similar gesture by Azerbaijan.

WHO: Serbia is keeping the epidemic under control

The head of the World Health Organization Office in Serbia, Marijan Ivanusa said that Serbia is keeping the epidemic under control.
He emphasized to Tanjug that in order to stop the epidemic, it is necessary to reduce contacts between people, to maintain social distance, but that hygiene measures such as hand washing, "cough and sneezing hygiene" are also important.

COVID-19 infects more than half a million in US

More than half a million people have been infected by the COVID-19 outbreak across the U.S., according to a running tally on April 10 by Johns Hopkins University.

The university in the state of Maryland counted 500,399 cases and 18,693 deaths. There have been a total of 28,837 patients who have recovered.

The first death was reported Feb. 29 in Washington state.
