Sofia hosts the second International Conference Days of Mathematics. From today to July 14, 250 scientists from over 40 countries will meet in the capital. Among them is the world most famous mathematician Professor Efim Selmanov from the University of California, San Diego, USA, a winner of the Feld Medal in 1994 (equivalent to the Nobel Prize in Mathematics), reported BGNES. 

In 2016, the government budget allocations for R&D (Research and Development) amounted to BGN 187.5M and decreased by 11.8% compared to 2015. The share of government budget allocations for R&D from gross domestic product (GDP) is also decreasing, according to the data of NSI.  In 2016, they represent 0.2% of GDP, at 0.24% in 2015.

Code yellow for dangerously high temperatures is in force for 14 districts in Bulgaria on 28th of June, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said, quoted by BNT. 

''The eurozone is obligatory, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov'' said during a discussion, quoted by FOCUS News Agency.

He said Bulgarians wrongly say that when they are ready, when they want, then they will enter the eurozone.

Bulgarian Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova met with Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bulgaria Anatoliy Makarov, the press centre of the Ministry of Energy announced. They discussed deepening bilateral relations, specifically in the field of energy.

Bulgaria is celebrating on Tuesday the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture and Slavonic Alphabet. Also known as Saints Cyril and Methodius' Day, May 24 commemorates the deed of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the two brothers who are credited with founding the Slavonic alphabet in the ninth century.

A research team led by German and Bulgarian scientists has claimed that the genealogical split between the great apes and humans happened several hundred thousand years earlier than originally thought, and in an entirely different location.
