Austria's stipulations for entry into the Schengen zone have sparked fierce criticism from opposition parties in Bulgaria, citing concerns of transforming the nation into a large refugee hub.

The concluding segment of the Monument to the Soviet Army in Sofia was taken down today, concluding the removal process that began on December 12.

Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) has stirred controversy after retracting an interview with Russian Ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova, citing violations of journalistic standards. This move has ignited accusations of censorship and political pressure.

"Dismantling of the Monument to the Soviet Army officially begins today", Sofia regional governor Vyara Todeva announced in front of the monument. According to her, the scaffolding around the monument is about to be completed, after which the tallest figures will be dismantled.

"Then everything will be sorted and described on the spot," she explained.

Bulgaria's Defense Minister, Todor Tagarev, has highlighted the country's significant prospects in drone manufacturing during an interview with Nova TV. Tagarev emphasized that although Bulgaria currently produces limited quantities of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) specifically for military operations, there exists substantial potential in this sector.

The Sofia Municipal Council failed to elect a chairman the first time. The nominees were Boris Bonev from "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria"/"Spasi Sofia", Diana Tonova from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Krasimir Galabov from "Vazrazhdane", Plamen Danailov from "There Is Such a People".

Vanya Grigorova, the candidate who fell short in Sofia's local elections runoff, is making waves by contesting the results at the Administrative Court of Sofia.

The candidate of "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria" and "Spasi Sofia" Vasil Terziev will face Vanya Grigorova, supported by the Bulgarian Socialist Party and "Levitsata" - in the most likely runoff in the Sofia elections.

With 11 votes "for" and 4 "against", the Defense Committee of the National Assembly adopted a draft decision on providing additional military aid to Ukraine.

It is proposed that Bulgaria donate malfunctioning anti-aircraft guided missiles and ammunition for automatic small arms that are no longer needed.

At the beginning of the plenary session, the "Vazrazhdane" party called on the Minister of Defense Todor Tagarev to resign.

The leader of the party, Kostadin Kostadinov, stated that with his actions, the Minister of Defense is not working for the country.
