Education bill to boost government reform profile

The Education Ministry's bill on higher education was introduced in the competent Parliament committee on Tuesday and is expected to be passed on March 1. It will be the government's final signature measure before the formal run-up to the European elections begins, and the goal of the bill is to demonstrate that ruling New Democracy is the only reforming force in the country.

False alarm over suspicious package at Education Ministry

Authorities are no longer under alert as the contents of the suspicious package do not pose a threat. A suspicious package, addressed to Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis, was found at the Education Ministry earlier on Wednesday. 

Authorities were put on high alert after receiving a call reporting the suspicious package.

Student rallies against private universities continue this week

Student associations are continuing their protests against a government bill allowing the establishment of private universities as of next year, with a new rally scheduled on Monday.

Protesters will gather outside the Education Ministry. A follow-up rally is planned for February 15.

Over 20 mln students return to school as new semester begins

More than 20 million students across Türkiye returned to their classrooms today as the two-week winter break concluded, marking the beginning of the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year.

The Education Ministry reported that 20,481,000 students and 1,178,000 teachers affiliated with the schools under the ministry had started their classes on September 11, 2023.
