The government is planning to issue a special card to 150,000 citizens through National Bank of Greece which they will be able to use to purchase food as part of a new program to help the poor designed by the Labor Ministry.

Almost 121,000 Greeks applied for meal vouchers, free electricity and rent subsidies in the first two weeks of a new program introduced by the government to tackle what it calls the ?humanitarian crisis? in Greece.

According to the Labor Ministry, a total of 120,726 people have submitted applications since the scheme was launched.

Greek pensioners decreased by 2,865 in February, 2015, and now number 2,654,784 people according to official figures by the Labor Ministry. Pension payments were at 2,346,571,901 euros in March for 4,541,966 pensions of which 2,902,477 were basic pensions and 1,639,489 were supplementary.

Nine people were arrested on Monday in connection with a fire on a passenger ferry in Drapetsona shipyard, southwest of Athens, in which one person died.
