Bosnia Election Results Seal Nationalists' Triumph

The main Bosniak, Croatian and Serbian parties in Bosnia - the Party of Democratic Action, SDA, the Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, and the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, SNSD  - were the principal victors of the October 12 general elections, the country's election commission has confirmed.

SARAJEVO -- The Election Commission has confirmed the election of the three members of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

They are Bakir Izetbegović of the Party of Democratic Action, Dragan Čović of the Croatian Democratic Union and Mladen Ivanić of the Party of Democratic Progress.

Vote Count Almost Over From Bosnia's Election

Based on around 95 per cent of votes counted, the three members of Bosnia's State Presidency will Bakir Izetbegovic - for the Bosniaks, Dragan Covic - for the Croats, and Mladen Ivanic - for the Serbs.

Izetbegovic, the existing Bosniak member, standing for the Bosniak Party of Democratic Action, SDA, won about 228,000 votes, some 40,000 more than his main rival, Fahrudin Radoncic.

Bosnian Central Electoral Commission announced on Monday that according to preliminary results from the previous day's polls, the Bosniak member of the tripartite presidency will be Bakir Izetbegovic of the Party of Democratic Action, SDA, while the Croat member will be Dragan Covic of the Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ.

Bosnians Say Farewell to Sulejman Tihic

Bosnians said goodbye to Sulejman Tihic, late president the Party of Democratic Action, SDA, who died last week in Sarajevo, at services in his hometown of Samac and in Sarajevo on Saturday.

Several thousand people attended the burial service in Samac, northern Bosnia, including politicians, former party colleagues and supporters.
