Ljubljana – Prominent Slovenian health experts said at a round table on Wednesday that epidemiologists should have had a major say in the management of the Covid-19 epidemic in Slovenia, with some adding that there was an unclear line between the government’s advisory group and political interests.

Woman’s Day marked by warnings of violence against women

Ljubljana – The Slovenian PEN Centre and Mira, the women’s committee at the centre, warned of violence against women ahead of Woman’s Day, 8 March, while the Manager Association warned of inequalities at work, aggravated by the Covid-19 epidemic. Quarantine word of the year 2020

Ljubljana – The word of the year 2020 according to the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU) is “quarantine”, followed by “cycling” in second and “14 days” in third place.

Apart from the 14-day period of isolation due to risky contacts which was later shortened to 10 days, quarantine was also used to refer to the lockdown in general.

Archaeologist Šprajc returns to Yucatan for vital answers about the Maya

Šprajc has been leading archaeological research in the Yucatan peninsula for more than 20 years. His latest expedition to the region bordering Guatemala, which is covered in a thick tropical rainforest, was between March and May, and he presented his findings to reporters in Ljubljana last week.

Israel hits Syria site reportedly used for chemical weapons

The Syrian army said Israel targeted a military site in Hama province early on Sept. 7 which a war monitor said could be linked to chemical weapons production. 

The airstrike killed two soldiers and caused damage near the town of Masyaf, an army statement said. It warned of the "dangerous repercussions of this aggressive action to the security and stability of the region."
