Iraq's ambassador to the UN on Dec. 8 appeared to play down a dispute between Baghdad and Ankara over the deployment of Turkish troops in northern Iraq, saying bilateral talks between the neighboring states to end the row were proceeding favorably.

Iraq asked NATO on Dec. 8 to put pressure on alliance member Turkey to withdraw its troops immediately from northern Iraq after Ankara said it would not deploy any more but refused to pull out those already there.

Russia has asked the United Nations Security Council to hold closed-door discussions on Turkish military action in Syria and Iraq, diplomats said on Dec. 7, in the latest sign of increasing tensions between Moscow and Ankara.

Two Russian warplanes violated Turkish national airspace for 17 seconds, flying 1.36 miles into Turkish borders on Nov. 24, Turkey has reported in a letter to the United Nations Security Council. According to the letter, one plane left Turkish territory after multiple warnings, while the other was fired at and subsequently downed by Turkish F-16 jets after ignoring the repeated warnings.

Both Turkey and Greece are "sufferers" of the Syrian crisis, not the "responsible," Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu said on Nov. 18, referring to hundreds of thousands of refugees and migrants travelling to Europe from Turkey through the Greek islands.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu said a ground forces operation in Syria could be possible but Turkey would not conduct such an operation alone, speaking in an interview with CNN International's Christiane Amanpour on Nov. 9. 

The United Nations Security Council will hold a special meeting on Oct. 16 to discuss the recent spate of violence between Israel and the Palestinians in which 39 people have been killed over the past two weeks. 

Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, which crashed in Eastern Ukraine in July 2014, was downed by a Russian-made 9M38 anti-aircraft Buk missile, a report prepared by the Dutch Safety Board says.
