FJR:Passage of Criminal Code amendments at speed of light turns Romania away from rule of law standards

The adoption of the amendments to the Criminal Code at the speed of light, in blatant breach of international conventions and by ignoring the opinions of the Venice Commission, turns the Romanian state farther away from the minimal standards of the rule of law, the Romanian Judges Forum (FJR) said.

US Embassy: Partner countries call upon Romania to consider potential negative impact of criminal law amendments

The Embassy of the US in Bucharest conveyed on Thursday that "important partner countries" called upon Romania to take into account "the potential negative impact of criminal law amendments."

President Klaus Iohannis said after Tuesday's meeting with a visiting delegation of the Venice Commission that the meeting made for a very good discussion but did not focus on the words of the justice legislations, but on principles, and that experts will issue an opinion on the legislation.
