BTA: European Central Bank, National Bank of Bulgaria Set Up Swap Line

The European Central Bank (ECB) and the National Bank of Bulgaria (BNB, the central bank) have set up a swap line to ensure liquidity of up to two billion euros, the BNB said on Wednesday. The line will be in force until the end of 2020 or until needed. The maximum maturity in respect of each withdrawn amount will be three months, BTA reported.

Bulgaria - One Step Away from Getting "Green Light" for Eurozone Waiting Room

Bulgaria's Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov has confirmed that Bulgaria is continuing its plan to enter the ERM-2 exchange rate mechanism. One of the commercial banks in the country still need to comply with the European Central Bank's recommendations for additional capital buffers. In doing so, Bulgaria will meet the requirements for applying to join the European Banking Union and ERM-2.

PM Boyko Borissov: Wearing Masks will Become Mandatory

At a briefing today, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov announced that he had ordered to Health Minister Kiril Ananiev that wearing face safety masks in public should become compulsory. Those who cannot find a mask will be allowed to use a scarf. This measure is expected to be implemented as of tomorrow.  

PM Borissov: Bulgaria will Apply for the ERM 2 by the End of April

"I shouldn't have to bend over to the Eurozone waiting room. You see how much money they are allocating. Bulgaria has an excellent financial and economic structure and has to meet only one requirement, in order to join ERM2 and we will do it immediately - we will apply for the Eurozone again.

The Prime Minister Convenes an Extraordinary Government Meeting

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov is calling an extraordinary government session today. Ministers will approve the signing of a contract for the delivery of 1,000,000 COVID-19 tests from South Korea.

Also today, the Minister of Culture, Boil Banov, will give a briefing to present government decisions and measures to support the cultural and creative sectors at the national level.

PM Borisov: Bulgarian Development Bank Management to be Dismissed

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov announced that he had ordered the dismissal of the CEO and the board of the Bulgarian Development Bank.

The Bulgarian prime minister stated that the reason for this decision was that the bank granted a loan of EUR 32.5 million /BGN 75 million/ to a company with a revenue of EUR 1,000 /BGN 2,000/.
