Battle Over Speaker Delays New Govt in Kosovo
Following last week's dramatic scenes in parliament over the vote for a new speaker, the President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, has put back her plans to nominate a Prime Minister-designate.
The President had previously announced that she would nominate a candidate for Prime Minister after the first session of parliament on July 17.

Kosovo Opposition Fails to Create United Front
Opposition leaders from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Nisma and the Vetevendosje Movement failed on Monday to reach a deal aimed at stopping outgoing Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, from forming the next government.

New Kosovo Parliament to Convene for First Time

Construction Begins on Kosovo-Macedonia Highway
Construction on the ‘Arben Xhaferi’ highway - named after a late Albanian politician in Macedonia - started on Thursday with a ceremony inaugurated by Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and state officials from Macedonia in Fushe Kosove/Kosovo Polje.
“Today is a special day for Kosovo, it is a blessed day,” Thaci said after symbolically beginning work on the 60-kilometre highway.
