Decline in unemployment stops as youth hit job market

Ljubljana – The unemployment in Slovenia stopped dropping in October for the first time since February, Mitja Bobnar, the head of the Employment Service, told the STA in an interview. However, the reason is not the expiry of subsidies for shorter working hours but first-time job seekers, he explained. Bobnar expects the situation in the labour market to remain favourable.

Employment Service expects 88,000 unemployed by end of 2020

Ljubljana – Some 84,700 unemployed persons were registered with Slovenia’s Employment Service on average in the first eleven months of 2020, up 14.5% compared to the same period in 2019. Currently, 84,732 unemployed persons are recorded, however the figure is expected to rise to some 88,000 at the end of the year, Employment Service head Mitja Bobnar said.

Labour market depends on economy re-launch, says employment official

Mitja Bobnar, the director general of the national institution, has told the STA in an interview that the labour market had felt the crisis brought by the coronavirus epidemic already in March.

At the end of April, 88,648 persons in Slovenia were registered as unemployed, which is 14% more than in March and 20% more than in April 2019.
