Turkey and Egypt have agreed to continue their consultations confirming their desire to make progress in areas under discussion and the need for further steps to facilitate normalization of their relations, a foreign ministry statement said on Sept. 8 after two-days long reconciliation talks.

Turkey has cited an increased momentum in normalization efforts in ties with two regional powers, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, on the day the second round of exploratory talks with the latter that was held in the Turkish capital.

Turkey and Egypt will hold the second round of political consultations next week in Ankara as part of mutual efforts to mend broken ties.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced on Aug. 31 that Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Hamdi Loza will be in Ankara on Sept. 7-8 and will meet Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal on Sept. 7 and 8.

Turkey is seeking to establish new mechanisms for discussing bilateral issues with Egypt, the spokesman of the ruling Justine and Development Party (AKP) has said, informing that a senior delegation of the Foreign Ministry will travel to Cairo to discuss the road map for the normalization of ties.

A new era has started between Turkey and Egypt and mutual visits may come to the agenda, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said.

Speaking to reporters on April 13, he announced that a meeting will be held between the two countries at the level of deputy foreign ministers, but the planning is ongoing, and the date is not clear yet.

Turkey offered Egypt to send the Nene Hatun vessel to help its operations in reopening the Suez Canal after a massive container ship ran aground, Transport Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu told private broadcaster NTV on March 26.

"We have offered help, and we'll send aid if they come with a positive response," he said.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan launched his political career in 1994 as a moderate Islamist from the municipality of Istanbul supported by the then small Welfare Party of Necmettin Erbakan.

All of Anadolu Agency staffers, who were detained by Egyptian police earlier this week, were released, said the agency head on Jan. 19.

"All our staff members, detained in Egypt on Jan. 14 have been released," Anadolu Agency Director-General Şenol Kazancı said.

On Jan. 14 evening, Egyptian police raided the Cairo office of Anadolu Agency and detained four employees.

One of Anadolu Agency's four employees detained in Egypt earlier this week has arrived back in Turkey, the agency's director said on Jan. 17.

An independent panel of United Nations experts said on Nov. 8 that the death of former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi in June could amount to "a state-sanctioned arbitrary killing".
