The number of expatriates entering Türkiye via its northwestern border gates has reached 1.3 million in the past month, accompanied by 323,600 vehicles, according to data released by the Trade Ministry.

Traffic fines not deterrent enough: Experts
The need for deterrent penalties on excessive speeding has once again been emphasized by experts since 1,345 people lost their lives in traffic accidents during the past six months.
Thousands of traffic accidents occur every year in the country, mainly caused by excessive speed, carelessness, disobeying the rules and similar reasons.

Pen shell population on the rise in Marmara Sea
The population of a protected species called noble pen shell, or Pinna nobilis, has increased significantly in the Marmara Sea, contributing as a solution to the mucilage problem and its own existence.
The mucilage problem experienced in the Marmara Sea in 2021 threatened the existence of many organisms in the marine ecosystem, particularly the pen shell.

Producers want wheat, barley to be purchased more
In a positive move for farmers, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced the purchase price for barley and wheat that farmers have long been waiting for.
"Our producers will receive 9,250 liras per ton for bread wheat and 7,500 liras per ton for barley," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said following a cabinet meeting on June 6.

Public figures enter parliament in new term
Several famous personalities, including a football player and a former Miss Türkiye, will serve in the 28th term of the Turkish parliament.
Former footballer and manager Ünal Karaman, who also worked as a caretaker manager for the Türkiye's national football team in 2004, entered the new parliament from the İYİ (Good) Party list in the Central Anatolian Province of Konya.

Free, discounted gas to save consumers 40 billion Turkish Liras
A government decision to offer free natural gas for one month and a discount for a year will help consumers to save 40 billion Turkish Liras (around $2.1 billion) in gas costs, according to Mustafa Yılmaz, head of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
Turkish parliament speaker meets with Armenian counterpart
Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop has met with the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan on May 4 who has been visiting Türkiye for the 30th Anniversary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) Summit and the 61st PABSEC Plenary Meeting.
‘Cultural assets in risky areas should be moved’
The Parliamentary Earthquake Commission has advised that cultural structures that are in danger of collapsing due to liquefication on their grounds should be moved via a wheeled platform.
The commission, which was established after the devastating Feb. 6 earthquakes in the southern part of the country, submitted its 935-page report to Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop last week.
