140 of the Upper Echelons - Ministers, Deputies, Mayors, Investigated for Corruption

140 senior officials, including deputies, ministers, deputy ministers, mayors, agency heads, agents of DANS (State Agency for National Security), police officers, tax and customs officers, are being investigated for corruption in Bulgaria.

The cases against 101 of them are at pre-trial stage, and there is an indictment filed in court against 39 of them.

Bulgaria will choose a new Chief Prosecutor on October 24th. The SJC adopted 21 of 22 votes in the Prosecutor's Office's proposals for the timetable of the procedure, a Canal 3 reporter reported.

The idea is to give a maximum amount of time for the procedure and to respond to the great public interest in the subject, said Sotir Tsatsarov.

Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov is on a working visit to Bucharest, where he will meet his colleague Bogdan Licu, the press center of the prosecutor's office said.

In the Romanian capital, he is accompanied by his deputy, Mr. Ivan Geshev, and the head of International Affairs at Tsvetomir Yosifov.

Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov has signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria and the European Investment Bank (EIB) to  strengthen cooperation and exchange of information between the two institutions, the prosecution announced, quoted by BNT.

The EC Refused to Comment on the Case with the Bulgarian Guest Houses

The European Commission refused to comment on the case of the Bulgarian guest houses built with funds from European funds as private villas, BNR reported.
 
Speaker Daniel Rosario said that an investigation into these cases is currently underway in Bulgaria, and it is precisely this that needs to answer the problem.
