Greens narrowly escape Greek Cup exit

Panathinaikos staged a Houdini act in the group stage of the Greek Cup, as it somehow managed to escape elimination right at the end of the round, while it seemed that it was destined for a shameful exit. There was no such luck for five other Super League clubs, ie Panionios, Larissa, Kerkyra, Iraklis and Veria.

Italian coach Stramaccioni leaves Panathinaikos

The Greek Cup loss to second-division OFI Crete on Wednesday was the final straw for Panathinaikos that forced Italian manager Andrea Stramaccioni to tender his resignation on Thursday, confirmed by a club statement. The Greens are now in talks with former Panionios manager Marinos Ouzounidis, according to reports.

Mantalos goal brings AEK on top in play-offs

AEK has climbed to the top of the play-off mini-league after beating Panionios 1-0 on Friday for the second round of games, in the process that will determine which club will follow Olympiakos to the Champions League qualifiers.

The recently crowned Cup winners needed a Petros Mantalos goal on the 57th minute to beat the strong Panionios defense at the Olympic Stadium of Athens.

Panthrakikos was the biggest winner of the penultimate round of Super League games on Sunday through its victory at Veria, on the day that Olympiakos partied for its fifth consecutive title. There were only 13 goals scored in seven games, five of which came from the champion.
