Lute calls Anastasiades ahead of Akinci meeting

UN Secretary-General's special envoy Jane Holl Lute expressed hope that an informal meeting between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on Friday will yield positive results.
She was further quoted as saying the UN diplomat will return to the island in the next weeks.

Anastasiades to meet Akinci next month

The informal meeting between Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci is scheduled to take place on August 9 at 10.30 p.m., according to government spokesperson Prodromos Prodromou.
The UN has urged both sides to come to an agreement on the way forward in the hope that this time around negotiations will be fruitful.

Cyprus President meets May in London

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades met with British Prime Minister Theresa May in London Tuesday. It is reported that the two discussed the latest developments with regards to efforts to resume negotiations on the Cyprus problem.
A Downing Street spokesperson said that May "expressed hope that progress would be made towards the resumption of talks."

President of Cyprus, Akinci agree on confidence-building measures

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiades, and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci agreed at a meeting today to implement confidence-building measures (CBMs) mainly in the sectors of telephony and electricity grids.

The move comes a year-and-a-half after the collapse of Cyprus settlement talks at Crans Montana, Switzerland with a new push to jump-start the talks underway.
