Accession of Serbia to the European Union

WASHINGTON - Washington recognises that issues in the Balkans cannot be solved without leadership from Belgrade, US Senators Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn) said Monday.

After meeting with Vucic, they said Washington understood very well the significance of stronger cooperation among the US, Serbia and the EU.

BRUSSELS - The EU is counting on Serbia, and Serbia can count on full EU membership after the dialogue with Pristina, European Council President Donald Tusk said in Brussels on Friday.

BRUSSELS - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will meet with European Council President Donald Tusk in Brussels on Friday, with Serbia's European integration, the situation in the region, as well as the possibility of accelerating Serbia's EU accession talks, expected to be discussed.

TRIESTE - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic met with EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn at the Berlin Process Summit in Trieste on Wednesday, highlighting Serbia's commitment to European integration.

Hahn backed Serbia's efforts to join the EU.

At a joint press conference after his meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Brussels on Friday, Tusk said that the EU "counts on Serbia, as Serbia can count on the EU."

BELGRADE/TRIESTE - Serbian First Deputy PM and FM Ivica Dacic met with EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn in Trieste on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday's Western Balkans summit in the Italian city.

EU Council President Donald Tusk stressed on Monday that Serbia can count on full EU membership "after the end of the dialogue with Pristina."

At a joint press conference after his meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Brussels on Friday, Tusk said that the EU "counts on Serbia, as Serbia can count on the EU."

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic says the European Union (EU) is a partner of Serbia, while Russia is its friend.

Belgrade's strategic goal is to join the EU, while it is "deeply committed to close and friendly relations with Russia," Brnabic has told the BBC, adding that her country was "trying to maintain balance at a challenging time."

The foreign minister of Estonia, which on July 1 took over the six-month EU presidency, expects Serbia to open new chapters at the end of the year.

This is when the next intergovernmental conference between the EU and Serbia will be organized, at which new chapters in Serbia's EU accession negotiations should be opened - depending on the progress made in chapters.

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic says that his country will maintain its "the road toward the EU" foreign policy course.
