No solutions without Belgrade's leadership - US senators

WASHINGTON - Washington recognises that issues in the Balkans cannot be solved without leadership from Belgrade, US Senators Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn) said Monday.

After meeting with Vucic, they said Washington understood very well the significance of stronger cooperation among the US, Serbia and the EU.

EU Council President Donald Tusk stressed on Monday that Serbia can count on full EU membership "after the end of the dialogue with Pristina."

At a joint press conference after his meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Brussels on Friday, Tusk said that the EU "counts on Serbia, as Serbia can count on the EU."

Brnabic: EU is our partner, Russia our friend

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic says the European Union (EU) is a partner of Serbia, while Russia is its friend.

Belgrade's strategic goal is to join the EU, while it is "deeply committed to close and friendly relations with Russia," Brnabic has told the BBC, adding that her country was "trying to maintain balance at a challenging time."

"Serbia could open more chapters at end of year"

The foreign minister of Estonia, which on July 1 took over the six-month EU presidency, expects Serbia to open new chapters at the end of the year.

This is when the next intergovernmental conference between the EU and Serbia will be organized, at which new chapters in Serbia's EU accession negotiations should be opened - depending on the progress made in chapters.
