Rockets struck a neighborhood near Kabul's international airport on Aug. 30 amid the ongoing U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. It wasn't immediately clear who launched them.

The rockets struck on Aug. 30 morning in Kabul's Salim Karwan neighborhood, witnesses said. Gunfire immediately followed the explosions but it wasn't immediately clear who was firing.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told reporters that the Americans carried out an attack on a suicide bomber while he was driving a vehicle loaded with explosives, without giving other details.

Turkey is ready to lend all kinds of support for Afghanistan's unity but will follow a very cautious path, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said, reiterating it will first wait to see what sort of an administration the Taliban would establish to run this country with 40 million population.

The Turkish Red Crescent on Aug. 28 distributed food packages to 100 families in the Afghan capital Kabul.

The distribution ceremony, held at the local Afghan Red Crescent Society, was attended by the group's head Mevlevi Sifatullah Qureshi and staffers of the Turkish Red Crescent Afghanistan delegation.

U.S. forces are in the final phase of leaving Kabul, ending two decades of involvement in Afghanistan, and just over 1,000 civilians at the airport remain to be flown out before troops withdraw, a Western security official said on Aug. 29.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas will pay a working visit to Turkey on Aug. 29, according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

"During the meetings, bilateral relations and Turkey-EU relations, as well as regional issues, particularly the developments in Afghanistan will be discussed," said a ministry statement.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan in a phone call, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Aug. 28.

Çavuşoğlu also had a separate phone call with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

Ljubljana/Kabul – The Defence Ministry is striving to get out of Afghanistan the remaining Afghan national of the two who had assisted the Slovenian troops and his family. After a number of attempts to get them safely to Kabul airport, this evacuation route is no longer possible in light of the escalating security situation, but other options are being considered.
