More Greeks face poverty, Eurostat study shows

One in three Greeks were at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2015, just below Romania (37.3 percent) and Bulgaria (41.3 percent), according to data released Monday by the European Union's statistical agency, while Greece also showed the highest increase in the risk rate, which grew from 28.1 percent in 2008 to 35.7 percent in 2015, or 7.6 percent.

Luxury and poverty hand-in-hand in Turkey

According to the newly-released income and living conditions survey of the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK), the rich have become richer while the poor have become poorer.  

Turkey's richest 20 percent have a share of 46.5 percent of the national income, up from 45.9 percent last year. The share of the poorest 20 percent has fallen from 6.2 percent to 6.1 percent.  

34% of Bulgarians Live in Dire Straits

Over 34% of Bulgarians live in dire straits.

Given a poverty threshold of BGN 325, 1.5 million people or 22% of the population were below this level, showed statistical data about the indicators on poverty and social inclusion for 2015.

Compared to the previous year, the poverty threshold increased by 0.6% and the relative share of the pour population rose by 0.2%.
