Konstantinos Floros, independent lawmaker - formerly with far-right Spartiates (Spartans) party - was detained on Wednesday following a physical attack against another lawmaker in Parliament, during a debate over a defamation lawsuit. 

A former lawmaker with far-right Spartiates party punched another MP in the face on Wednesday during a tense argument in Parliament over a defamation lawsuit. 

The Supreme Court is expected to rule by the end of May on the eligibility of political parties contesting the June 9 European Parliament elections, including the far-right Spartiates (Spartans), who are being prosecuted for voter fraud.

The far-right party is accused of deceiving the electorate as to its real leadership.

The prosecution of 11 MPs of the far-right Spartiates (Spartans) party for voter fraud on Thursday may radically change the composition of Parliament. 

The leader of the far-right Spartiates (Spartans) party has said that he "supports and embraces all the MPs of his party," as two of his MPs declared themselves independent hours after a Supreme Court prosecutor brought charges of electoral fraud against eleven MPs elected with the party in the last election.

Giorgos Manousos, a lawmaker with the far-right party Spartiates (Spartans) stepped down on Thursday, hours after the prosecutor of the Supreme Court brought charges of electoral fraud against eleven party lawmakers, including Manousos. 

The move was announced in a letter to the Speaker of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tassoulas.

The Prosecutor of the Supreme Court has brought charges of electoral fraud against eleven lawmakers of the far-right Spartiates (Spartans) party, Kathimerini understands, in a case that could affect the parliamentary seats of the other parties. 

The charges do not include party leader Vassilis Stigas.

Amid ongoing political turmoil in Bulgaria, the "Revival" party ("Vazrazhdane") has declared its readiness with the composition of the government if it receives the third mandate from the president. Party leader Kostadin Kostadinov made the announcement on the sidelines of the parliament, stating that they are prepared to take on the mandate without delay.
