Disruptions in Athens Friday and over weekend

Workers at the Athens metro, the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway (ISAP) and the tram will hold a work stoppage Friday from 12 noon to 3 p.m. to protest new legislation that will allow the Athens Public Transport Organization (OASA) to make commercial use of stations and areas belonging to STASY, the operator of the capital's fixed-track public transport system.

Police investigating after elderly couple found dead in home

A couple, both aged 79, were found dead in pools of blood in their home in Argyroupoli, southern Athens, on Thursday.

According to reports, the man was found dead on the ground floor, while the woman was found in the basement.

Their bodies were discovered by the couple's son, who notified police.

Police were investigating the circumstance surrounding their deaths.

Despite the decrease in refugee flow to Greek islands, more than 6,000 refugees and immigrants are living under the worst conditions at Elliniko.

The management of “Elliniko SA” sent a letter warning of the possible epidemic outbreak, since more than 6,000 people are staying in the temporary refugee center at former Greek airport at Elliniko.

The government has admitted its lack of plan for immigrants to Greece at a time when they are being carted back and forth from Idomeni to Athens without a plan. The mayors of four regions in Athens have joined their voices in an open letter against the government’s reported plan for a creation of a migrant camp at the former Elliniko airport.

Comedy actor Kostas Tsakonas dies, aged 72 (pics + vids)

Greek actor Kostas Tsakonas died in a central hospital in Athens at the age of 72 years after a battle with cancer. Sources close to him say that he had numerous health problems since a stroke five years ago. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at Argyroupolis cemetary in South Athens.

Fire aftermath-Authorities on high alert (pics)

Greek authorities are on high alert due to high winds blowing Saturday across the country. In the prefecture of Laconia in the Peloponnese, firefighters have managed to contain most of the fire front but are still operating to extinguish smaller spots around the region. 130 firefighters and 51 vehicles started their operations at the break of dawn.
