Turkish start-up develops money-disinfecting ATM

An Istanbul-based tech company has manufactured a paper money disinfection module for ATMs to remove bacteria and viruses from paper money.

"The module we developed makes all ATMs hygienic and environmentally friendly in 15 minutes," Furkan Eruçan, the Co-Founder of Money Shower, told state-run Anadolu Agency.

Bank association urges customers to pay bills online to limit contacts, avoid cash

The Hellenic Bank Association (HBA) urged customers to favor electronic transactions over visiting bank branches and to rely on card payments instead of cash, as a way to limit the transmission of the new coronavirus.

In its press release, the association said banks would continue their operations as usual and resupply ATMs with cash.

ATM blown up in northern suburb

Unknown assailants blew up an ATM at dawn on Wednesday in the northern Athens suburb of Penteli but were unable to extract any money from the machine.
According to police, the perpetrators caused an explosion at 3.30 a.m. which damaged the cash machine and the facade of a real estate office on Panagouli Street.

Police have launched an investigation.

Police in Thessaloniki were seeking the perpetrators behind an explosion around 3.30 a.m. on Wednesday that destroyed an ATM in the northern port city's Efkarpia suburb.
According to police, the assailants planted the device on the ATM, which was outside an insurance firm, and blew open the machine before fleeing with an undetermined sum of cash.

New ATM blast in northern Athens

Police were seeking the perpetrators behind an explosion shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday that destroyed an ATM in Melissia, northeastern Athens.

According to police, the assailants planted the device on the ATM, which was outside a supermarket, and blew open the machine before fleeing with an undetermined sum of cash.

The blast caused damage but no injuries.

Lykovrisi cash machine targeted by robbers

Unknown assailants blew up a bank branch ATM early Monday morning in the area of Lykovrysi, northern Athens.
Police said the heist occurred at 3.25 a.m. on Sofoklis Venizelou Avenue.
The perpetrators used dynamite to blow up the cash machine and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
It was the fourth time that the ATM in question had been targeted in recent years.
