Serbia's Prime Minister has belatedly axed his controversial defence minister, Branislav Gasic, who has been in the middle of controversy since early December when he told reporter Zlatija Labovic from TV B92, who had knelt down to get out of the way of her cameraman at a press event: "I love female journalists who get down on their knees easily."

Protesters gathered in front of the Serbian government building on Monday in the latest in a series of rallies under the slogan "Journalists do not kneel" to demand that the promise to sack Gasic be fulfilled.

Journalists on Monday evening once again gathered to demand the dismissal of Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic over a sexist remark he made.

Opposition New Party leader Zoran Zivkovic has had an operation at the First Surgical Clinic in Belgrade and is in a stable condition.

His party confirmed this for B92 on Thursday.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Wednesday that Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic "has already been sacked."

A woman died in Belgrade on Tuesday when a tram hit her, Emergency Center spokeswoman Nada Macura has told B92.

The Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia, NUNS, announced a protest for Monday under the slogan "Female journalists do not kneel/PM keep the promise", urging Vucic to fire Gasic immediately.

The Swiss C&A Foundation on Monday donated EUR 25,000 euros to the B92 Fund's project to help refugees in transit through Serbia.

The donation was presented during a ceremony in Belgrade's Usce shopping mall.

B92 has learned unofficially on Friday that the entire management of the Belgrade-based Partizan FC has resigned after a shocking defeat to Augsburg.

Partizan on Thursday failed to qualify for UEFA's Europa League last 32 stage after losing to the German club 3-1 (1-1) at home.

The surgery block of the Institute for Health Protection of Mother and Child "Dr. Vukan Cupic" in New Belgrade received a donation on Thursday.

This came as part of the B92 Fund campaign "Battle for Maternity Wards".
