Serbian citizen caught smuggling 68 kilos of cocaine

LJUBLJANA -- A citizen of Serbia was arrested in Slovenia for attempting to smuggle some 68 kilograms of cocaine in a truck he drove, the local police said.

BELGRADE - The police seized 1.9 tons of various narcotics in the period from May to October 2014, which is 18 percent more compared to the same period last year, Serbian Minister of Interior Affairs Nebojsa Stefanovic stated on Wednesday.

MADRID -- Spanish authorities seized nearly one ton of cocaine from a yacht off the Canary Islands and arrested its three crew members, among them a citizen of Serbia.

Balkan drug lord Dragoslav Kosmajac was arrested in Belgrade early on Sunday.

Serbia's Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic announced at an extraordinary press conference that 61-year-old Kosmajac and seven of his accomplices had been arrested in a police operation, adding that they would remain in custody for a period of up to 48 hours.

The three men arrested earlier this week in Voula, southern Athens, after 233 kilos of cocaine were found in a rented home were remanded in custody on Friday.

Of the three suspects, only the Greek man spoke before a prosecutor, denying that he was involved in drugs trafficking.

The other two men, a Mexican and a Colombian-born Canadian, chose not to make any statements.

Around 130kg of heroin and 30kg of cocaine were seized in operations of Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security (DANS) in the first six months of 2014.

The authorities seized over 54kg of marijuana in the first half of 2014, according to the Bulgarian National Radio.
