The European Commission will present tomorrow the progress reports on Bulgaria and Romania on the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, reported the Bulgarian National Television.

SOFIA (Reuters) - Bulgaria's government approved an action plan on Wednesday that envisages the country entering the "waiting room" for euro membership and also joining the European Union's banking union by the end of June next year.

Should Bulgaria be allowed to join the eurozone and the EU's banking union? That is the question that has been under consideration by European policymakers this summer. In theory, of course, Bulgaria not only has a right to join both but is legally obliged to do so, under the conditions of its accession to the bloc.

SOFIA, July 18 (Reuters) - Bulgaria will formally apply on Wednesday to join the European Union's banking union as part of its bid to enter the "waiting room" for euro zone membership, the Black Sea state's finance minister said.

The Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) of the European Commission proved an obstacle not only for Bulgaria's membership in Schengen but the euro area, too. BRUSSELS, July 10 (Reuters) - Bulgaria has committed to strengthening its banking sector, European Union officials said on Tuesday, two days before a euro zone finance ministers' meeting that could shed light on the Balkan country's progress towards joining the euro.

Low incomes do not prevent Bulgaria from joining the Eurozone's "waiting room" and later the eurozone itself. This was stated in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio "Horizon" by the Commissioner for the Euro and Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovskis.

A report by the European Commission published on Wednesday said Bulgaria was not ready to adopt the common European currency.

Following assessments on the country's legal compatibility and its fulfilment of the convergence criteria, "the Commission considers that Bulgaria does not fulfil the conditions for the adoption of the euro," it said.
