Five arrested for child pornography

BELGRADE -- Five persons have been placed under arrest for possession of a large amount of pornographic material made through the abuse of children and minors.

The Interior Ministry (MUP) said that the arrests were part of the ongoing Operation Armageddon and were carried out in Belgrade, Vrsac, Kragujevac, Sremska Mitrovica, and Valjevo, coinciding with International Safer Internet Day.

A statement said that the suspects were in possession of "an enormous amount of pornographic material made through the abuse of children and minors," and that one victim from the territory of Serbia has been identified.

The suspects and the criminal complaints against them will be turned over to the Special Prosecution for High Technology Crime.

Operation Armageddon was launched in 2010 with the goal of preventing pornographic abuse of children and minors and distribution of such materials.

The MUP has appealed on citizens who have any information that could lead to identifying the persons producing, distributing, or possession child pornography to report it using the childprotection@mup.gov.rs email, or via the Safer Internet Hotline website form.
