4 New Outbreaks of African Swine Fever Have Been Reported in Ruse

Four new outbreaks of African swine fever have been reported in Ruse, Darik News reports.

"There are diseased animals in an industrial farm in the village of Karamanovo in the Municipality of Tsenovo. There are 4,500 animals raised and their killing and burial began yesterday", said Dr. Nikolay Nenov of the Regional Food Safety Directorate.

Scientists are working hard on a vaccine against the African swine fever because of the outbreak of the virus in Asia, according to the Associated Press quoted by BTA.

Farmers have delayed the spread of the virus for a long time by quarantine and killing the infected animals. However, the devastating onset of the disease in East Asia is intensifying and requires another solution.

New Outbreak of African Swine Fever in Velingrad Municipality

An outbreak of African Swine Fever has been confirmed after a laboratory test of a dead wild boar in Arnautska Polyana area, the Municipality of Velingrad said on August 20. In order to prevent the spread of the disease, the Municipal Epizootic Commission has decided to suspend logging, to ban visits of tourists and to ban picking of mushrooms, herbs, and berries.

A New Case of African Swine Fever in Plovdiv and Lovech

The carcass of a killed wild boar has given a positive result for the disease virus.
"A new case of African swine fever has been discovered in a wild boar found in the territory of Perushtitsa." This was announced by the director of the Regional Directorate of Forests in Plovdiv, Miroslav Dimitrov, immediately after the meeting of the Regional Epizootic Commission, quoted by BTA.

First Case of African Swine Fever in Blagoevgrad Region

The first case of African Swine Fever in the Blagoevgrad region was registered on August 15. The infected animal was found in the Struma River near Kresna. An extraordinary epizootic committee discussed the measures to be taken. Some 70,000 culled pigs have already been buried in the Rousse region, which is most affected by the disease, reports BNT. 

Russia Bans The Import of Pigs and Pork Products from Bulgaria

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance - Rosselkhoznadzor has introduced a ban on the delivery of live pigs and pork from Bulgaria and Slovakia to Russia. The measures are taken due to the African swine fever (ASF) disease, TASS reported. The restrictions are temporary but have been in force since 9 August
