RAE sounds out investors to implement power linkup with Crete

Crete doctor convicted for infant's death
A doctor on the island of Crete who was blamed for the death of an 11-month-old infant was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.
The sentence was suspended following the doctor's appeal.
The infant died in November 2012 due to complications that arose during an operation at the University Hospital of Crete.

Champion of Crete synagogue restoration dies, 85
Nicholas Hannan-Stavroulakis, the man who famously fought for the restoration in 1999 of the Etz Hayyim Synagogue in the town of Hania on the island of Crete, died Friday morning. He was 85.
Stavroulakis served as the director of the Jewish Museum in Athens and was an emblematic figure in Greece's Jewish community.
His funeral will held in Athens on Monday.

Crete gears up for 2017 National Mountain Running Championship
The 2017 National Mountain Running Championship of Greek track and field federation SEGAS will take place this year at Kritsa in eastern Crete on June 4.
In only the second time the event has visited Crete (the first was in 1983), the run will start and finish at the central square of the traditional mountain village of Kritsa, near Aghios Nikolaos.
Aquaworld Aquarium | Crete | To October 31
The Aquaworld Aquarium on Crete features displays local sealife and reptiles from around the world, including snakes, turtles and octopuses. Visitors are not only allowed to interact with the animals, but are encouraged to pet and hold them. Located in the port of Hersonissos on the northeastern coast of the island, the aquarium is open every day through October 31 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Gunman speaks to protothema.gr exclusively. Chania hostage stand off continues (photos)
Evangelos-Nektarios Kalymnios, 45, the armed man that is holding three hostages in a stand-off with police in Chania, Crete, spoke exclusively to protothema.gr saying that he will not leave unless the council changes its decision to revoke his kiosk permit in the town. “I have 5 children and declared 0.05 cents in taxes. I am broke. I haven’t slept a minute since the weekend.
